Spanning Tree Algorithm. STA is a bridging algorithm that avoids active loops (multiple paths between nodes that could create infinite loop transmission patterns). If multiple paths exist between a bridge and a destination, the algorithm requires the bridge to use only one path. If the best path fails, the algorithm finds the next best route.
