There are many types of addresses in data communications systems. Examples of addresses are physical addresses, station addresses, LAN IDs, network addresses and ports. The lowest level address in most networks is the physical address. Other names for the LAN ID are MAC address, Data Link Layer address, frame address, Ethernet Address, Token Ring Address, DLCI, etc.
