fat ping

A fat ping is a ping issued with the -l option, specifying a large packet size. This can be used to test for intermittent network component or link failures between end nodes. A useful packet size is 512 bytes, although sizes up to the network segment’s MTU can also be used. This term also refers to a TCP/IP denial of service attack, where the sender floods the receiver’s network with oversized packets.
